European Football Kit Supplier Report 2012

Jersey is main source of income for clubs

Cumulated sales of replica jerseys for all of the 98 clubs in the five key European top flights currently amount to approx. 11.1 million.

Dominant market leadership of adidas, Nike and Puma

A total of 27 different jersey brands / sport equipment suppliers are represented in

the top flights of the key European football markets in 2011/12 and provide at least

one of the 98 clubs in the competitions with on-pitch apparel. These include a few

clubs who launch their own sportswear collections and kit suppliers with a

geographically limited range of operation.

The number of active companies has been fluctuating between 27 and 33 brands for

seven years. However, the dominance of a few kit suppliers on the European football

market has remained relatively unaffected when the number of clubs supplied is

observed to benchmark market penetration. In these terms, the three largest kit

suppliers, adidas, Nike and Puma, achieve a penetration level of 44 percent.

Long time for the Germans whom have won titles in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 1972 , 1980 , and 1996. In other words the longest draught since the 20 years between 54 and 74.

Review: AC Milan home jersey 11-12 Scudetto

ACM Ambassador: AC Milan Home Jersey 2011/2012 (Scudetto)

With AC Milan now back on the field, they’re sporting more stars than ever before, brandishing formations with the likes of Robinho, Cassano, Alexandre Pato, and the one and only Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There’s never been a better time to stand behind a team like Associazione Calcio Milan, and fortunately, they’ve been pushing the brave styles of their jerseys more than ever this year. So now, courtesy of MMSports, I shall show my thoughts on AC Milan’s new 2011/2012 Home Jersey, including the Scudetto patch!

AC Milan home jersey Scudetto patch

The Look

As if to perform the polar opposite of the 2010/2011 home jersey design, AC Milan went back to old ways this year. Last year, Adidas and AC Milan introduced a jersey with large vertical stripes bathed in shades of black and red. What they have done now is pounce back to the older styles of many stripes and in fact, the new AC Milan jersey has twenty-one thin stripes. I will not lie, the look of many stripes did not at all seem appealing to me at first, but as I watched the team play their home matches and witnessed other fans adorning the new jersey, it began to strike me as a very attractive design choice. Once visions of the old jersey faded away, I grew a new appreciation for what could perhaps be Milan’s best home jersey yet! Aside from the stripe altercation, the second most significant change could just be the best one. As the Milan crest itself shows, white has always been an fundamental color choice of the team’s merchandise and styling, though curiously enough, it always appears absent on the team’s home jerseys. Adidas has finally changed that presumption. AC Milan’s 11/12 Home Jersey has a very sharp look with slick finesse; the jersey has a white ring neck, white sleeve cuffs, and even the signature Adidas stripes upon the shoulders are now an eye catching arctic white shade. The design is careful to keep the polar white schemes from unnecessary interference with the black and red stripes all Rossoneri  followers have come to love, and I cannot stress enough just how nice it looks. It looks great on the field, and it looks great on the street; AC Milan’s new home jersey is dashing! In addition to those core changes that have been beneficial to the design culture of Milan, Adidas performed the favor of lightly shifting the locations of the Adidas logo and the Milan crest; making them that little bit more distant in order to keep the jersey’s design clean and polished.

AC Milan home jersey 11-12 details

Thanks to MMSports, I received for review a version of Milan’s new home jersey that included the famed Scudetto patch! The Scudetto Shield, in the Italian league of Serie A, is representative of a league title. Since AC Milan proudly lifted the trophy last season, they will spend this season, in all competitions, sporting the Scudetto patch on their jerseys! The patch is a shield shape containing the three stripes of the Italian national flag. It is bordered with a thin golden outline. For serious Milan fans, such as myself, the value that the Scudetto patch holds is far greater than it would seem; this symbol means more than just another trophy, it represents a victory as a team and as a worldwide fan-base. For those interested in obtaining an AC Milan jersey, I would highly recommend purchasing a version that includes this patch, for its value in meaning is as fantastic as its value in style; without the Scudetto patch, the jersey loses some of its soul. Adidas made this jersey aware that it would be played with a Scudetto patch, and as such, many of the design choices revolve around the presence of that patch. Take my word for it; this jersey looks very nice with the “We won the league trophy last season!” patch.

The Fit

In terms of fit and comfort, all I can say is, “Wow!”, why would I react like this? It is simple, I am without a doubt, a fan of AC Milan, and when I talk about a jersey, all Milan fans know what jumps to mind. Last year’s jersey, though it had a very nice look, did contain one basic flaw that would be the downfall of one of the most important features of sporting merchandise: inconsistent comfort. The way that the some of the colored seams met, as well as the over stretchy a
bundance of mesh material throughout the large stripes… last year’s jersey really was not all too comfortable to wear. Do not get me wrong, it was not terrible, but once I put on this year’s jersey, I knew I could never go back. Adidas threw the body mesh concept out of the window. Now, as it should be, the mesh segments are focused in the under-arm area. The rest of the jersey? Well, as Adidas continues to prove year after year, their “Climacool” technology and the fabric of their jerseys is of premium quality. The wear is silky smooth; unlike last year’s jersey, I do not feel inconsistencies in the overall design. The whole jersey is one straightforward feel, and as usual, whether you are a fan that purchases a jersey for sportswear or just casual apparel, the physical feel adapts to what you do. It is comfortable for relaxing, and it is just as comfortable for taking a jog, the new Milan home Jersey does not disappoint.

The Extras

In terms of extras, I mentioned the fan-essential Scudetto patch previously, but in addition, like all other jerseys, you can get this one customized with a favorite player’s name and number. That authentic customization, as well as the Scudetto patch, will make a great AC Milan set for any fan that surely will not be forgotten. One cannot forget that the Scudetto patch is a rarity; who knows when you will see it available again? If Milan wins this year’s Serie A race once more, then you can expect more Scudetto patch studded jerseys in the future, but is that a risk worth taking when you can grab the jersey of a championship caliber team with the sign of victory right now? That’s a question of how loyal your “Cuore Rossonero” may be, and I throw a personal and grateful “thank you” to MMSports for allowing me to review this edition of the jersey.

AC Milan home jersey details front

My final verdict on this new style for AC Milan’s home jersey is simple. With the new emphasis on a bright white trim, the reverting to more stripes as well as adding even more, and an increasingly appealing and stylish look, the AC Milan Home Jersey for 2011/2012 could be the best AC Milan jersey to date, and surely ranks among the best Adidas jersey of the season worldwide. AC Milan’s squad, as well as its fans, can be proud to sport the legendary colors of “il Diavolo” in a look as attractive as it can get. Regardless of your origins, whether you may be a heart bound Milan fan or maybe just a jersey collector, this is one to take into possession right now! I have been one of the biggest critics of the change in Milan’s home jersey, and I can tell you as I wear it now, this is hands down the new jersey to beat for the Italian champions.

Review: Arsenal home shirt 11-12

I’m reviewing the latest 2011/12 Official Arsenal Home football shirt. Made by Nike. This was released in June 2011. Made In Thailand

The shirt is very similar to the 2010/11 shirt but this shirt celebrates the 125th anniversary of arsenal football club.

Arsenal home shirt 11-12

The Shirt is Red with a ribbed style collar with white sleeves which feature a red rubber stripe down both arms.

Arsenal crest Laurels

The Arsenal Crest has 15 Lauren leaves to the left which represents arsenal’s strength “which arsenal and their fans needed at the start of the season” on the right of the crest there are 15 oak leaves which mark the founders of arsenal football club. Just Under The Leaves there is the dates 1886 & 2011. This is very similar to the original woolwich arsenal shirt but obviously without the dates. “Take a look at the history books” Under the crest there is the word “forward” this is to show the club will continue to grow and be a future force again!!!

Arsenal crest laurels close up

Nike tick is embroidered. The sponsor, arsenal logo are rubber material. All are well made and show quality which you would expect from Nike. Wash labels in the shirt are quite large & are explained in several languages.

Arsenal chest Swoosh

Arsenal sponsor logo Fly Emirates

Authentic Label on the bottom right corner – designed to the exact specifications of championship athletes product code 015948302

The shirt is Dri Fit which is the latest technology in sports wear- label reads Pulls away sweat to keep you dry and comfortable which I totally agree with as I often wear my arsenal shirt in the gym

The shirt size seems to be slightly bigger than other previous seasons, which gives more room for movement. The shirt is also light in weight which makes it more comfortable to wear

I have owned all arsenal shirts from the past 10 years and always wear them with pride this one will be no acceptation knowing the clubs history has been thought about and built into this shirt

Review: England home jersey 10-12

 Review: England national team jersey

By Aaron Holtsclaw

I am reviewing an extremely nice England Jersey manufactured by Umbro. It is all white with no stripes or other markings on the shirt. There are tiny red and blue crosses in a pattern around the neck and shoulder areas but otherwise it is dominated by white. The England crest sits above the wearers heart with the 3 Lions stretched across it. Above the crest in white on white is a single star for the World Cup victory in 1966. The other breast is adorned with the Umbro logo which appears out of place on such a pristine jersey. The collar is almost like a throwback to the jerseys worn by the 1966 team. Most replica jerseys have a very average collar similar to a t-shirt while this jersey has something special. If you could travel back in time, you could imagine Sir Bobby Charlton running around the pitch in this jersey. You might be distracted by his comb over hairstyle which tried to hide his bald spot but your eyes would be drawn back to this awesome jersey. It fits snug on a person used to wearing a 3XL shirt.  The listed size is 46 which would probably translate to a XL or XXL in the United States.  Though it fits snug, this is a nice Jersey with excellent construction and a clean look to it. Though England is going into Euro 2012 with a bit of controversy around the Wayne Rooney red card, you could see him or potential future England Captain Phil Jones wearing this jersey in the tournament as they try to shake off years of disappointment and win a major trophy. Regardless of whether you want to wear this jersey looking forward to the next tournament or to support the history of this great countries side which has yet failed to live up to expectations, you will look great in this jersey.

Review: AS Roma home jersey 11-12

Kappa Roma Home 11/12 Jersey Review

By Zach Jepson

To put it simply, the new 11/12 home Roma jersey by Kappa is visually stunning but has some setbacks that keep it from being a “must-buy”.  First, the most notable feature of the shirt is that it is made of a material known as Lycra.  Lycra can best be described as almost a spandex like material and because of that, it makes the overall fit of the jersey very tight.  The new kit also features embroidered club crest, kappa logo, screened “Wind” sponsor, and screened kappa logos.  The crest on the home shirt differs than those on the away and third shirts.  The crest on the home is the original crest while the new crest is featured on the other shirts.  The embroidered Kappa name is located on the right shoulder, making it a unique location compared to the other larger manufacturers.  The screened Kappa logos are on either side running from the bottom hem to the armpit, I personally think these weren’t needed and it makes the shirt a bit “busy”.  The “Wind” sponsor is a highlight for me as I have always been a fan of it and the blue in the curved line really looks great on the burgundy and orange of the jersey.

AS Roma home jersey 11-12

Now, I love the shirt because of how it is just entirely different than anything Nike, Adidas, or Puma releases to the public.  The colors are outstanding and they are much brighter than what is shown on the website.  You have to see this jersey in person to see how stunning it looks. I wore this shirt around town and got a lot of compliments from strangers…lots of lady strangers, that’s right guys, want to talk to a new lady friend?  Buy this shirt.  But listen to this advice first.  Kappa’s sizing is absolutely crazy.  I don’t know what they could be possibly thinking but I think they must be based out of Amsterdam rather than Italy (Amsterdam, that’s not a knock on you—you keep doing what you do).  If you want a size similar to your normal jersey or t-shirt size you need to order three sizes up.  If you want a tight fit like how a Nike compression shirt or Under Armour Coldgear shirt would fit, then order two sizes up from your regular size.  This means if you’re a small in Adidas and you want a looser fit then you need to order an XL in this.  I wear a large in Nike, Adidas and Puma…I’m a XXXL in this.  Now, this is where thing’s get even wackier.  Not all of Kappa’s sizing is the same!  A Fulham shirt by Kappa fits differently than these Roma shirts.  I have a 10/11 Fulham shirt (Go Dempsey!  I’m from the USA…yes I know I’m a Spurs fan, Dempsey is an exception), and it is made from Lycra too but their sizing is much more similar to how a Nike or Adidas shirt would fit like.  I recommend only going up one size in those.  If you wear a large, grab an XL in a Fulham Kappa shirt.  The sizing is just out of control and that is a major annoyance for this reviewer.

So, what we have here is a shirt that looks great but has a crazy sizing scale.  Also, it’s not much different than any of the other Roma shirts Kappa has released in the past 5 years.  In my opinion, if you own a home Roma shirt by Kappa from the past few years, don’t bother buying this 11/12 one. However, if you’re a Roma fan without a shirt…I’d definitely buy it…but three sizes larger than your regular shirt size.  Additionally, any guys having trouble with the ladies…buy this shirt; it’s an easy compliment grabber and conversation starter.  You’ll be getting phone numbers in no time.  Don’t believe me?  Buy the shirt.  Or ask Francesco Totti.  Remember, the King of Rome is not dead people.
