Review: Chelsea home shorts and socks

Review: Chelsea shorts and socks

In this blog I’ve gotten to cover a lot of things Chelsea, from scarves to home and away jerseys. There is, however, one area that I have yet to cover, and that’s any area below the belt. So a Chelsea Fan is supposed to go through life barefoot with his bits all out and about, right?  I thought so too. Then MMsports set me straight with the official Chelsea FC home socks and shorts.

Chelsea FC home shorts and socks combo

The official home socks are white with blue bands around the top.  CFC is embroidered in blue across the front and a blue adidas logo on the back. The socks extend all the way to the knee. The bottom of the foot has grey padding that really helps give you a little extra padding when you’re blasting shots past goalies. Because the padding is designed to be anatomically correct, the socks are labeled left and right.  The material allows for your feet to breath a bit while inside your shoe.

If you’re lacking confidence, draw strength from the blue four on your sole representing the 4Premier/First division championships.

The shorts are a great addition to your Chelsea gear.  Made of the same blue Climacool material as the jersey, they do a great job of wicking away the first bit of sweat.  The Chelsea emblem adorns the right front.  The white adidas stripes run down the sides giving it that race car feel.  I received a large and they fit quite nicely, with the bottom seam falling right above the knee.  They are also roomy and don’t cling like some shorts have a tendency to do. Whether you’re running up and down the pitch or just lounging around your apartment, you’ll be comfortable and look good in these shorts.

While I would recommend both products, if you’re only going to get one I’d say get the socks.  I’ve become a huge fan of the padding and find myself wearing them a lot with my actual boots that I wear to slog through the day to day muck and mire. I may even try using them as my ski socks on an upcoming trip.

Review: Manchester United away shorts and socks

Manchester United Teamwear Socks.

The 2011/2012 Manchester United Away Nike Socks are beyond anything you could ever expect from a pair of socks.  Not only are they dri-fit and ventilated in the calf they have built in arch support.  These socks are extremely comfortable on the pitch.  The specialized cushioning on the pads of the foot adds noticeable support.  I really love the ventilation in the calf, which helps with the normal chaffing from shin guards.  As a woman, I do not believe I find much of a difference then men do.  They fit incredibly well from the foot to the knee.  This is a plus as most soccer socks have a tendency to not fit the calf shape on women.  These are knitted for a snug fit and excellent performance.

They also have a very stylish look with the all black calf leading to a blue band at the top.  As a big fan of Manchester United, the Red Devil on the back of the calf is a personalized touch that is quite fun and adds a unique flare.  Off the pitch I found the Nylon Polyester blend to be useful for wearing under my winter boots.  As a student in Midwest America, I spend a lot of time walking through snow in my boots.  These socks double as excellent winter socks, aside from the indoor pitch, by keeping my feet warm and dry.  In winter boots or soccer boots, these socks are a useful buy for any Manchester United fan who plans to be on or off the pitch.

Manchester United Teamwear Shorts

The 2011/2012 Manchester United Away Nike Shorts are quite the buy.  As a female reviewer I have found two aspects that have stuck out: style and quality.  Starting with style, these are quite the pair.  I am usually one to borrow my boyfriend’s shorts when lounging around and these are very nice.  I would suggest a size larger then you would normally buy as they are Nike and run slightly smaller then other companies.  One female specific problem is that the short are not very accommodating for female hips, but as mentioned order a size larger would solve this minimal problem.  Other then this feature, I find them to be both comfy and look nice.  The style of solid black is always a nice choice, and I really like sporting my favorite team’s patch on the right leg.  A nice accent is the blue trimming on the bottom back of the legs, as well as the Red Devil insignia on the back.  The length is also very nice just slighty above the knee.  Now to the quality, I have said now in numerous reviews how much I love the Nike Dri-fit Polyester.  This fabric is as always excellent for both running and exercising.  Dri-fit is breathable, but still offers the support of compression.  The make of this item is of an excellent level of quality and I deem it a worthwhile buy.  I can see these shorts lasting for quite a while. If you plan to wear then on the pitch as a woman, make sure you pay attention to the sizing.  If you are just wearing them for comfort they are still a good choice.   These shorts are stylish, comfortable, and an extremely worthwhile purchase.

Review: Nike team wear womens shorts

Nike team wear shorts women’s

The Nike women’s teamwear shorts are the perfect choice for any women’s sports team or any woman looking for a comfortable pair of shorts.  I really like these Polyester shorts, and for me the fit was perfect.  Unlike most Nike products, these shorts do not run small, so please keep that in mind when ordering.  Sometimes I find that Men’s shorts can get tight around female hips, but with these made for women short there is no such problem.  The drawstring waist fits very well, and the lining is also comfortable.  For me the choice time to wear these is lounging around the house, but they are just as comfortable to go for an afternoon jog or play a game in.  I find that they are good choice to wear because they stay on without falling down, thanks to sticky elastic around the drawstring.  Likewise they do not attract static like other shorts, so you do not have the problem of them becoming too short when you run.  Along those same lines, the length of the shorts is also on target.  The shorts are not as long as men’s meaning they have a sort of stylish look, but also not to short that you would feel uncomfortable working out in them.  Unlike most Nike products, these shorts do not run small, so please keep that in mind when ordering.  I have not compared them to other companies such as addidas, but I think you will find the sizing to be about the same.   The color of my pair is Navy Blue and it did not fade going through the washer like others might.  Although it may not beat the shorts made out of Dri-Fit or Underarmour the Nike team wear still holds up as an efficient alternative.

Review: AC Milan home jersey 11-12 Scudetto

ACM Ambassador: AC Milan Home Jersey 2011/2012 (Scudetto)

With AC Milan now back on the field, they’re sporting more stars than ever before, brandishing formations with the likes of Robinho, Cassano, Alexandre Pato, and the one and only Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There’s never been a better time to stand behind a team like Associazione Calcio Milan, and fortunately, they’ve been pushing the brave styles of their jerseys more than ever this year. So now, courtesy of MMSports, I shall show my thoughts on AC Milan’s new 2011/2012 Home Jersey, including the Scudetto patch!

AC Milan home jersey Scudetto patch

The Look

As if to perform the polar opposite of the 2010/2011 home jersey design, AC Milan went back to old ways this year. Last year, Adidas and AC Milan introduced a jersey with large vertical stripes bathed in shades of black and red. What they have done now is pounce back to the older styles of many stripes and in fact, the new AC Milan jersey has twenty-one thin stripes. I will not lie, the look of many stripes did not at all seem appealing to me at first, but as I watched the team play their home matches and witnessed other fans adorning the new jersey, it began to strike me as a very attractive design choice. Once visions of the old jersey faded away, I grew a new appreciation for what could perhaps be Milan’s best home jersey yet! Aside from the stripe altercation, the second most significant change could just be the best one. As the Milan crest itself shows, white has always been an fundamental color choice of the team’s merchandise and styling, though curiously enough, it always appears absent on the team’s home jerseys. Adidas has finally changed that presumption. AC Milan’s 11/12 Home Jersey has a very sharp look with slick finesse; the jersey has a white ring neck, white sleeve cuffs, and even the signature Adidas stripes upon the shoulders are now an eye catching arctic white shade. The design is careful to keep the polar white schemes from unnecessary interference with the black and red stripes all Rossoneri  followers have come to love, and I cannot stress enough just how nice it looks. It looks great on the field, and it looks great on the street; AC Milan’s new home jersey is dashing! In addition to those core changes that have been beneficial to the design culture of Milan, Adidas performed the favor of lightly shifting the locations of the Adidas logo and the Milan crest; making them that little bit more distant in order to keep the jersey’s design clean and polished.

AC Milan home jersey 11-12 details

Thanks to MMSports, I received for review a version of Milan’s new home jersey that included the famed Scudetto patch! The Scudetto Shield, in the Italian league of Serie A, is representative of a league title. Since AC Milan proudly lifted the trophy last season, they will spend this season, in all competitions, sporting the Scudetto patch on their jerseys! The patch is a shield shape containing the three stripes of the Italian national flag. It is bordered with a thin golden outline. For serious Milan fans, such as myself, the value that the Scudetto patch holds is far greater than it would seem; this symbol means more than just another trophy, it represents a victory as a team and as a worldwide fan-base. For those interested in obtaining an AC Milan jersey, I would highly recommend purchasing a version that includes this patch, for its value in meaning is as fantastic as its value in style; without the Scudetto patch, the jersey loses some of its soul. Adidas made this jersey aware that it would be played with a Scudetto patch, and as such, many of the design choices revolve around the presence of that patch. Take my word for it; this jersey looks very nice with the “We won the league trophy last season!” patch.

The Fit

In terms of fit and comfort, all I can say is, “Wow!”, why would I react like this? It is simple, I am without a doubt, a fan of AC Milan, and when I talk about a jersey, all Milan fans know what jumps to mind. Last year’s jersey, though it had a very nice look, did contain one basic flaw that would be the downfall of one of the most important features of sporting merchandise: inconsistent comfort. The way that the some of the colored seams met, as well as the over stretchy a
bundance of mesh material throughout the large stripes… last year’s jersey really was not all too comfortable to wear. Do not get me wrong, it was not terrible, but once I put on this year’s jersey, I knew I could never go back. Adidas threw the body mesh concept out of the window. Now, as it should be, the mesh segments are focused in the under-arm area. The rest of the jersey? Well, as Adidas continues to prove year after year, their “Climacool” technology and the fabric of their jerseys is of premium quality. The wear is silky smooth; unlike last year’s jersey, I do not feel inconsistencies in the overall design. The whole jersey is one straightforward feel, and as usual, whether you are a fan that purchases a jersey for sportswear or just casual apparel, the physical feel adapts to what you do. It is comfortable for relaxing, and it is just as comfortable for taking a jog, the new Milan home Jersey does not disappoint.

The Extras

In terms of extras, I mentioned the fan-essential Scudetto patch previously, but in addition, like all other jerseys, you can get this one customized with a favorite player’s name and number. That authentic customization, as well as the Scudetto patch, will make a great AC Milan set for any fan that surely will not be forgotten. One cannot forget that the Scudetto patch is a rarity; who knows when you will see it available again? If Milan wins this year’s Serie A race once more, then you can expect more Scudetto patch studded jerseys in the future, but is that a risk worth taking when you can grab the jersey of a championship caliber team with the sign of victory right now? That’s a question of how loyal your “Cuore Rossonero” may be, and I throw a personal and grateful “thank you” to MMSports for allowing me to review this edition of the jersey.

AC Milan home jersey details front

My final verdict on this new style for AC Milan’s home jersey is simple. With the new emphasis on a bright white trim, the reverting to more stripes as well as adding even more, and an increasingly appealing and stylish look, the AC Milan Home Jersey for 2011/2012 could be the best AC Milan jersey to date, and surely ranks among the best Adidas jersey of the season worldwide. AC Milan’s squad, as well as its fans, can be proud to sport the legendary colors of “il Diavolo” in a look as attractive as it can get. Regardless of your origins, whether you may be a heart bound Milan fan or maybe just a jersey collector, this is one to take into possession right now! I have been one of the biggest critics of the change in Milan’s home jersey, and I can tell you as I wear it now, this is hands down the new jersey to beat for the Italian champions.

2011-2012 FCB Training Jersey

By FC Barcelona ambassador Gerard Banez

This is the jersey that you see Messi and the rest of the FCB gang wear prior to game time. As much I like to identify with those guys, I fall short of putting this shirt on during the pregame and switching to the game shirt once play begins. That said, I really like this jersey and find it a versatile piece of soccer fashion. It’s a good piece of casual wear for activities like running errands or cheering on your kids as they play. The shirt allows me to support FCB in a way more subtle than donning the game jersey. It looks like it may also be a great workout shirt, but it feels too nice for me to use in that way.

FC Barcelona pre-match top black

The Look

Like all the FCB merchandise I have reviewed or purchased, this jersey is relatively simple in design but stylish. My favorite features are the red & yellow ribbed neck/sleeve cuffs and stripe across the center of the shirt. They contrast well with the black body of the jersey. Also of note is the screened FCB on the back of the jersey. Just in case people don’t recognize the badge on the front, the FCB provides another clue as to who I root for.

FC Barcelona pre-match top backside FCB

The Cut

This shirt fits just like the authentic & replica game jersey. I prefer a slightly looser fit, and the size ‘L’ training jersey fits just like the ‘L’ game jerseys.

The Feel

Like the other FCB jerseys, this shirt is made of Nike Dri-Fit fabric. The fabric appears to be thinner and of a lesser weight than the game jersey fabric, but it has substance and seems durable. The fabric will do well in warmer temperatures and is very comfortable.

Bottom Line

Another excellent piece of FCB merchandise and a good alternative to game jersey. I can see this one quickly becoming one of my favorites because it looks so nice and is appropriate to wear in many different situations.

Review: FC Bayern hoody top

Review: FC Bayern hoody top

By MM Sports FC Bayern ambassador Ben Roden

Even as Manchester City trudged off the pitch and out of this season’s Champion’s League, it was tough for this Bayern fan not to feel a twinge of envy. I certainly couldn’t covet City’s introduction into the Europa League, the Champion’s League’s awkward yet well-meaning younger brother.

Nor were the Citizens’ two spectacular goals a cause of my jealousy– I had little hope that Bayern’s team of youngsters and fringe players would stand much of a chance against City’s first teamers.

Why then, on what should have been a triumphant evening, did I find myself in reluctant admiration of the Citeh? Perhaps it was because, even in defeat, the boys in blue possessed an indomitable flair, a devil-may-care defiance – in short, Man City has Bad Boy appeal.

Desperate to capture the bad-assery, I immediately donned my new FC Bayern Munich jacket. I pulled the zipper to my chin, raised the hood, and surveyed the world around with a new-found swagger.

FC Bayern zip hoody top

This hoodie is the perfect piece for the Bayern supporter looking to embrace his inner rebel. Unlike other hooded sweatshirts, this one eschews pockets, leaving your hands free to engage in all sorts of flippantly illicit activity – buying unauthorized tickets to Argentina, making obscene gestures to opposing supporters, lighting your apartment on fire with fireworks – the choice is yours.

Along with the embroidered crest on the chest, the hoodie features two screenprints – a large, gray crest on the side of the garment, and the club name in red and white printed across the back.

There’s certainly function to match the flair – the jacket is thick enough to keep you toasty whether or not you follow your manager’s instructions to warm up.  The jacket does run a bit snug, so if you need to conceal firearms when entering the local nightclub, plan on ordering a size or two larger than your usual.

If you’re looking to inject some City-esque bad-boy flair into your Bayern apparel, lay your money down for this excellent jacket.   Unlike City’s squad, you won’t need Sheikh-funds to afford it.

Review: Denmark DBU shorts and socks

Review: Denmark soccer shorts and socks

By Aaron Holtsclaw

Today I am reviewing the remainder of the kit for the Danish National Team. I previously reviewed the jersey and I went into the history of the team and their success on the European level. That being done, I am going to focus on the parts of the kit that is often overlooked and under purchased by football fans. Myself being a Manchester United supporter, I own plenty of their jerseys but do I own the equal amount of shorts? No. There is not often times where you would wear the full kit for a team but seeing it together in this light makes me want to. The shorts are mainly white and made out of Adidas Climacool fabric. The fabric feels nice on your legs as you run or walk in these shorts and the contrast to the mainly red jersey looks very attractive to the eye. Above the right knee is the crest of the team which I explained the meaning of in my previous review. On the back of the left leg is the Adidas logo which features the manufacturer prominently but doesn’t detract from the main focus of the kit which is the team logo. As always, the Adidas stripes run down each leg in red rounding out the details. Of the few football shorts I own, these are one of the nicest. The overall look and feel is awesome. I would highly recommend these shorts to any supporter of the Danish National Team or to any American Football fan that has Danish roots. It’s a nice way to show off your heritage and support a great side in Europe. The last part of the kit is the socks. The socks are the same color of red as the jersey. The only other color is white in a few places. First, the Adidas stripes at the top of the sock where the elastic is dominates the look and says, “These are Adidas socks.” On the front of the sock is the DBU from the crest letting the wearer know that these aren’t average socks, they belong to the remainder of the Danish kit. The back of the calf has the Adidas logo in a raised pattern sewn into the socks like the DBU showing the quality of the craftsmanship put into these socks. Some socks have a heat transfer or thin construction to them which gives draws attention to the bootleg quality. It is clear that these socks are made of pure quality. The last feature is a number 5 within a circle. I am not sure if that is a sock size or something else but in US sizes, I wear a size 13 shoe and my feet fit comfortably inside these socks. They have the right amount of compression and room so they aren’t too constrictive. I am a big fan of socks and these are some of my favorites.  Though I am American, getting the chance to review this kit and explore the history of this team has turned me into a supporter. I can proudly wear these when I watch the team play in the future.

Review Chelsea hat and scarf combo

Review: Chelsea hat and scarf

By Ray Pottenger – Chelsea Ambassador

It’s autumn when the air is crisp, the leaves are turning, and a young man’s thoughts turn to the pitch.  Sure it’s always warm in the pub, but what will you wear on your way there to keep the old head and neck toasty?  More importantly what can he hold proudly above his head after every Sturridge goal, Cech save, and Mata assist? MMsports was kind enough provide a suitable answer to these questions by sending this year’s  Chelsea scarf and skull cap.

Chelsea beanie hat scarf combo

The skull cap by adidas is slick little number.  The cap is blue with three white stripes banding the lower portion of the cap.  A gold band rings about the bottom.  The Chelsea emblem patch is sown into the front.  The hat fits snuggly and covers the ears. The cap is made from a 70% Acrylic/30%wool blend, which allows it to stretch to accommodate even the largest of domes. The fabric also allows the head to breathe a bit while not letting in too many of cool breezes.

The scarf is 100% acrylic and does a great job of trapping in the heat.  On both sides of the scarf, Chelsea FC proudly emblazoned in white letters against a field of royal blue.  Each end of the scarf has the Chelsea crest woven into it. A white border encapsulates the entire scarf with white  strings hanging from the ends.  The scarf adds a little panache to your winter nights when worn with around the neck with a standard knot.
